Last week Microsoft revealed the Surface Pro tablet and Surface 2. Both devices feature 10.6-inch displays with 1080p resolution. Sorely missing from Microsoft’s presentation was a 7-inch tablet option. However, the head of Microsoft’s Surface Pro tablet productions says a 7-inch device may still be on the horizon.
Surface Head Panos Paney recently sat down with GeekWire and provided this juicy tidbit:
“We have a lot of great things that we are thinking about and working on, and there are multiple aspect ratios and sizes and awesome things to come from Surface. That’s the best answer I have for you.”
Okay maybe that isn’t exactly a rousing statement of support specifically for a 7-inch tablet, however, that device size has been a favorite among many tablet users, and therefore, would make sense for the next device release. Even if a 7-inch Surface Pro tablet isn’t revealed, any smaller sizes could appeal to users who want the convenience of Windows 8 with the portability of a smaller sized tablet.
7-Inch Google Android tablets are currently flooding the market and customers are accustomed to that size. Microsoft isn’t the type of company that tends to break the mold which likely means a 7-inch or close size is in the works.
Rumors about a Microsoft Surface Pro with a smaller display size only began surfacing in April which means we likely won’t see a smaller display until early 2014.
While a 7-inch Surface Pro may peak the interests of some users a new report by DigiTimes has found that most customers are shying away from the Surface Pro tablets because of pricing considerations.
