The St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Dodgers are in talks that would send shortstop Rafael Furcal to the Cards. GM Ned Colletti said on Saturday that a “number of issues” still remain in those talks, however a deal should be completed by 1 p.m PDT on Sunday when the non-waiver trade deadline arrives.
Under the terms of the agreement it’s believed that the Dodgers will pay a large part of Furcal’s remaining salary, however money isn’t believed to be one of the negotiation issues.
It should be noted that Furcal has the right to refuse a deal since he is considered a 10-and-5 player after 10 seasons in the league with five or more years on the same team.
Furcal wasn’t any help in determining his trade status, noting:
“A lot of people called me,” and. “I tried to call my agent, but he doesn’t answer the phone.”
He then admitted that he loved the Dodgers but would not act unprofessionally if moves were made:
“I love it here,” he said. “I respect the game. I don’t want to be unprofessional and say I don’t want to go nowhere.”
All will more than likely be answered by 1 p.m. today.
