Sen. Marco Rubio is selling his home in Miami for $675,000.

The senator put his “middle-class” four-bedroom, four-bathroom West Miami home up for sale because he is planning to move his family to Washington, D.C . However, the timing of the sale may rub some people the wrong, as Rubio discussed still living in the same neighborhood where he grew up during Tuesday’s State of the Union address.

“Mr. President, I still live in the same working class neighborhood I grew up in. My neighbors aren’t millionaires. They’re retirees who depend on Social Security and Medicare,” Rubio said. “They’re workers who have to get up early tomorrow morning and go to work to pay the bills. They’re immigrants, who came here because they were stuck in poverty in countries where the government dominated the economy.”

In response to Rubio’s boast, Tim Elfrink at Miami New Times , wrote:

“West Miami is, in fact, a fairly blue collar town, just west of tonier Coral Gables. But it’s pretty brazen to put your residence there in a nationally televised speech when 1) you are actively trying to leave that working-class neighborhood and 2) you stand to make more than a half-million bucks by doing so.”

Similarly, Zillow ‘s Laura Vecsey wrote:

“Maybe the GOP’s brightest star and potential 2016 candidate did not want to use a national television audience to market his 2,600-square-foot home at 6060 SW 13th St, West Miami 33144.

Or maybe Rubio was going to mention that real estate news flash, just before he leaned left for an unplanned water break that made for an awkward moment and a slew of Internet buzz, including Rubio’s own Twitter pic of the infamous water bottle.”

According to the Miami Herald , Rubio and his wife, Janette, bought the 2,649 square-foot home in December 2005 for $550,000. The couple put the house on the market in November 2012.

Do you think it was hypocritical of Rubio to mention living in a middle-class neighborhood when he stands to make a $125,000 profit from the sale of his home?
