Scarlett Johansson has been speaking about her involvement in Sacha Gervasi’s Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho and – somewhat inevitably – the iconic shower scene from Hitchcock’s most famous film.
The 27-year-old actress, who will play the role occupied by Janet Leigh in Gervasi’s production, said there will be no re-shooting of the scene. In the 1960 film, Leigh played heroine Marion Crane, who was stabbed to death while showering. Speaking to Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson , Johansson confirmed:
“We will not be re-shooting the entire shower sequence, no.”
So sorry, perverts, there’s to be no Scarlett flesh in this flick. While not exactly a substitute, there will be the excellent Sir Anthony Hopkins, who plays Hitchcock. This is a prospect that excites Johansson:
“I’ve seen some makeup tests recently, and just watching [Anthony] play Hitchcock is pretty memorable in itself. He’s gonna be bananas! I can’t wait for that – I’m very excited.”
Rather than a direct remake ( please god , let’s not go there again), Gervasi’s film will tell the story of the making of Psycho . Hence no shower stabbing, I guess.
Johansson also talked about how she kept things feminine on the set for her latest film The Avengers , and hinted that there may have been a drinking session or three:
“I surrounded myself with a lot of girls so that we sort of counterbalanced … we tried to like, hold down the fort a little bit. You just have to bring it and hold your own. I have to say these guys like to play hard – really hard. So, you just have to apply for a liver transplant and pray.”
