As updates on the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie remain rare and unsatisfactory, Savannah Guthrie decided to reach out to the public in the hope of a kidnapper coming forward, or a local providing any information that could lead authorities to her mother. Nancy Guthrie has been missing since Feb. 1, with her family having last seen her on the night of Jan. 31, 2026.
Since the disappearance, the Pima County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI have been working to determine where Nancy Guthrie may have been taken. Authorities are treating the case as a kidnapping after blood found on a porch matched Nancy Guthrie. However, for a kidnapping, several aspects of the case are unusual. No ransom demand has been made. Further, no proof of life has been provided to the family since her disappearance.

Savannah Guthrie has reached out through local media to residents of Tucson and Southern Arizona. Former FBI agent Jason Pack said Guthrie might know what she is doing, hoping that a local search could yield better results than a national one. It would not be difficult for Savannah to do a national broadcast about the matter, but it seems that the family believes a more local search and combing effort is in order.
Regarding this, Pack said, “The family chose a local television station, not a national platform. That is not an accident. NBC and its platforms would likely have aired it if asked. They targeted their own neighborhood. That tells you they believe someone local has information, or more likely, someone local has not checked their cameras yet because they assumed somebody else already did.

Given the timing of the broadcast and the sheer amount of time that has passed since an update, Pack has speculated that leads and tips must be running cold, making it more and more unlikely that people are looking for things that may aid in the case. He said, “Law enforcement has not held a press conference in over a month, and it had been nearly three weeks since the family last made any public appeal before Saturday night. When investigators go dark, and the media moves on, tip volume likely drops. That is just the nature of it.”
Pack has suggested that agents and officers should collect footage themselves, as the average citizen might miss something of vital importance. “The resident does not know what nothing looks like to a trained investigator. Sometimes the most important frame in an investigation is the one the homeowner already dismissed.”
