Rumer Willis said it was weird to see mom Demi Moore marrying Ashton Kutcher, giving her a step-father young enough to be her brother.
But if anyone is used to unusual relationships, it’s the Willis clan, who have shown that marriage and divorce don’t have to conform to any kind of standard.
Rumer admitted that her mom’s relationship with Ashton was hard to take in at first . In an interview with Howard Stern this week, the Dancing with the Stars contestant said she once had a crush on Ashton and had his poster on her wall.
“He was one of many on the wall, but I totally did,” she said about hanging his poster in her bedroom. “I feel like I told my sister that, ‘Man, ugh, alright, gotta cross him off the list.’”
Though the marriage between Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher seemed odd, Rumer said she adjusted quickly.
“It was definitely weird for a minute but I have to commend him, he was a really great stepfather and the perspective shifted very quickly,” she shares. “That’s when you open up your Teen Beat and then you just take him down, find someone else and put him up.”
If anything, Rumer Willis should have been ready for the somewhat “weird” relationship between Demi and Ashton. For close to a decade she was in the middle of one of the most unusual Hollywood relationships, with her parents maintaining an ultra-close friendship after divorce.
Bruce Willis and Demi Moore split in 1998 after 11 years of marriage, but since then have maintained an incredibly close friendship . Instead of just working together out of obligation to their kids, Bruce and Demi actively tried to be part of each other’s lives, even choosing to live near each other.
Willis recently bought an $8.8 million apartment in the same building where Moore has lived for years, and a source told In Touch magazine that Demi was actually the one who turned Bruce on to the place.
“She actually encouraged Bruce to buy the home,” an unnamed source told the magazine. “[Demi] is really happy. They both love their kids, and living in the same building will give them a lot of privacy.”
Demi’s more recent ex has stayed involved as well. As Rumer Willis has made her run through DWTS , Ashton joined Demi in offering his support and encouragement.
