British tabloids- which heavily covered the Amanda Knox case and her subsequent release along with co-defendant Raffaele Sollecito after an appeal- have been jumping all over alleged statements made by Sollecito that he is in close contact with Knox and that the pair plan to spend time together over the holidays.
November 1st marked the fourth anniversary of the murder of Meredith Kercher, the crime for which both Knox and Sollecito spent four years in prison in Italy for before their stunning acquittal in early October . The crime riveted Europeans and Americans alike due to the salacious claims and conflicting evidence, and both the conviction and acquittal of Knox and Sollecito captivated viewers.
So it’s no surprise that a recent interview with Sollecito suggesting the pair were getting cozy turned heads and got the rumor mill going. Sollecito allegedly gushed:
“We talk on the phone or write to each other every day. We have so many things to say to each other having passed four years in a circle of hell that crushed us.”
It was further reported that the Sollecito family planned to visit the Knox family before Christmas. But the father of Sollecito says the claims are false and he does not know where the information came from. Francesco Sollecito commented:
“Raffaele has not spoken to any reporters since being released, and he will not anytime soon… I did not talk about any communications between Amanda and my son. I have no idea if they speak every day. I don’t talk to Raffaele about those details, but he has a computer in his room so maybe they do communicate. But I do not know the extent of it.”
As for visiting the States, the elder Sollecito says:
“That is old information from when they were released and the Knox family extended the invite. We will go as a family to see the Knoxes at some point, but we have not set a date yet and are not planning to go before Christmas.”
