Prince Harry has been serving as a member of the board of the African Parks charity since 2023, after serving as the president of the charity for six years. Now, Survival International, a human rights organization, has asked the Duke of Sussex to resign. The request follows serious allegations against the charity.
The non-profit charity, African Parks, is linked to torture, r–, and violence towards Indigenous communities in the Republic of the Congo. The rangers working for the charity have been accused of various crimes. The allegations on the Rangers include torture, beating and s– abuse, according to a report by Tyla.
Harry, who stood alongside his wife to collect a ‘humanitarian award’, still has said nothing about the human rights atrocities being committed against the indigenous people in the Congo & Zambia! Renewed calls for Harry to step down from African charity! https://t.co/UtcexAVnpX

According to The Times report, the rights group claimed the abuse towards the indigenous community is still going on. Cherie Blair’s law firm, Omnia, conducted an investigation in May 2025 that confirmed the human rights abuse in the region. African Parks is involved with the management of 24 protected areas in 13 countries in Africa. They collaborate with the local government to manage these regions.
However, the rangers have been accused of abuse targeting the Baka people who live near Odzala-Kokoua National Park. Blair’s law firm noted, “human rights abuses have occurred, and we deeply regret the pain and suffering that these have caused to the victims.”
After this report, the charity created a framework to give the Baka people access to the land. It also agreed to work with Congolese human rights organisations. Despite this, Survival International pointed out that the problem has not been solved. The Baka community leader told the human rights organization, “We don’t work with them. The way the African Parks treat us here is violent.”
Meanwhile, Prince Harry’s representative agreed with the African charity statement, “Specifically, in Odzala, we will take action against staff members implicated in previously unknown incidents or those that had not been adequately dealt with, where sufficient evidence is available.”
At Sentebale, he quit when the chair called him a racist bully. At WellChild and Invictus, there are money issues. And for African Parks, he has failed to address serious allegations. Harry has no business being involved in charities. pic.twitter.com/CYhPN41xAe

The charity’s spokesperson recently also released a statement claiming they have made “sustained investment” to safeguard the national park. They brought in three independent human rights NGO partners. These partners served as reporting channels for community members. These operations looked after the grievance and redress mechanism to fix the problem.
On the other hand, the director of Survival International, Caroline Pearce, argued the charity organization is “colonialist and racist.” She added, “It is outrageous to see Harry’s continued support for African Parks despite the horrific human rights abuses committed by its rangers against the Baka.” After the constant abuse, a Baka man said, “African Parks are killing us slowly. We’re suffering so much that we might as well be dead.”
Pearce also points out that there have been horrific abuses and violations of international human rights law that have been going on for a decade. Moreover, African Parks has prevented the details of the investigation from being made public.
She further stated, “The Baka are the forest’s best guardians: governments, foundations, and celebrity supporters like Prince Harry, should pull the plug on African Parks now, and stop their complicity in this crime.”
