A tedious murder investigation launched by local law enforcement began in the parking lot of a Kalamazoo, Michigan, apartment complex.

In a dashcam and later, bodycam footage posted by the YouTube channel STAYAWAKE – Crime & Psychology, a loving mother named Melissa is pulled over by the police on May 20, 2023, completely unaware of the fact that her son, Jeff Kucharski, had used that very vehicle to carry out a gruesome murder.

The woman looked frightened and agitated as the police started to go through her car. “Melissa, can I come talk to you over here real quick? Melissa, you are in a horrible spot right now because your son has put you in the middle of a big mess,” one of the cops informed the middle-aged woman.

The police officers found traces of blood and vomit on the center console of the car. After making sure it wasn’t the woman who had been hurt, the officers led her back to her to show the evidence. The woman tried to dismiss the claims, saying it was her lipstick. She refused to cooperate with the police, constantly urging them to let her go before she got to know the horrible truth.

She said, “Oh, that might be my lipstick.. It’s my lipstick. I don’t think it’s blood. I know it’s not blood.” Further continuing, “I really swear to God. I don’t have any idea. I don’t. I’m telling you the honest truth.”

Once she found out, she was in complete shock. She was seen saying, “You’re lying. Oh my gosh. Are you serious?”

At 5:38 p.m., 28-year-old Taylor Dragicevich was fatally stabbed approximately five times. Her mother, Cindy, and twin brother, Morgan, overheard the incident and provided details to first responders. Paramedics found no pulse at the scene and transported Dragicevich to the hospital, where she was subsequently pronounced dead.

Dragicevich’s abusive ex-boyfriend, Jeff Kucharski, was an immediate suspect. After their breakup three months earlier, his violent threats had forced Taylor to get a restraining order. However, the getaway car didn’t match the witnesses’ details. The mother and son saw a gray SUV, but Jeff drove a black Chevy Cruze. The police suspected he might have borrowed a vehicle.

Evidence indicates that Taylor locked herself inside her vehicle after sustaining stab wounds to her face, head, and hand. After the assailant fled, she exited the car and collapsed nearby, where paramedics located her. According to her family, the attack followed persistent harassment by her ex-partner, Jeff, who refused to accept the breakup and repeatedly violated an active restraining order to contact her.

Melissa revealed that she hadn’t seen her son Jeff in two days. After seizing Melissa’s car and phone, deputies allowed her to leave.

Meanwhile, the police could trace Jeff back to Melissa’s house. As Jeff refused to cooperate, the officers had to tase him. They transported him to the Kalamazoo public safety headquarters to be interviewed by the detectives.

He kept denying his crime until he couldn’t lie anymore. Upon seeing the surveillance screenshots of his mom’s SUV near the crime scene, Jeff finally confessed.

The next day, Jeff attended the court session via webcam. The police could never verify whether his mother, Melissa, was involved. In December 2024, a year and a half after Dragicevich’s death, Jeff pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. In January of 2025, during Jeff’s sentencing hearing, Dragicevich’s family ripped into him.

“You are a piece of garbage. And because of what you did to my sister, I can’t trust people anymore. I had to see a therapist so I don’t have to walk around feeling like a failure because I couldn’t protect her from you. You were nothing but a sc*mbag. You don’t deserve to live,” said Morgan, who could barely hold himself together.

In the end, Jeff Kucharski was sentenced to a minimum of 60 years in prison. He is currently staying at the St. Louis Correctional Facility in St. Louis, Michigan, and his earliest release date is in the year 2083.
