Police responded to a call about a drunk, abusive mother from the father of the kids. She had four kids, and three were his. Despite the ongoing family court order, the mother was drinking and smoking in front of the kids. Under the influence, she had a habit of getting aggressive and verbally abusing the kids.
When the officers reached her home, she was drunk and told them she was of legal age, so that she could drink. She even called out her ex-partner, who did the same thing. The officers asked if they could speak to the kids. At first, no one said anything.
Later, one of her sons said he wanted to talk to the officer. He told the officer he was used to this behavior of hers, and she had been doing this for over five years. He also said she used to yell and throw things around, and that his mom was cheating on his father. Meanwhile, the mom was stopping the kids from talking to the officers and hurling slurs at them. The officer said, “We need to stop. Doing this in front of the kids is crazy. Losing your mind in front of your son is ridiculous.”
Another kid joined to speak up and told the officers that she had been hitting her kids for years now. The son said, “I’m used to this stuff. I’m ready for her to go to jail,” the kid says while crying. “She has been abusing us since like five years ago. She has been abusing all of us with her words for like five years.” The younger daughter adds, “Mom has been hitting me.”
While the son continued speaking to the officers, she tried to pull him away. At that moment, the officer put her in handcuffs and then filed a domestic incident report (DIR). The officer asked the father of the kids about her behavior. He told them the abuse and violence had increased in the last five months. He called the mother an aggressive drunk. The mother was charged with resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration in the second degree.
The bodycam video of the mother’s meltdown in front of her kids has racked up over 1.2 million views. Many sympathized with the kids and criticized the mother. One viewer commented, “Little boy’s anxiety is through the roof. He keeps rocking. Poor little dude.” The second one commented, “She’s actively traumatizing her children in front of the cops.”
Many suggested the police should have separated the mother sooner, as she was still behaving badly in front of the police. One more commented, “What a brave boy, telling his mom he wants to talk to the cop.” “Did anyone else take a huge sigh of relief when she was cuffed and shut in the cop car?” posted another.
