Microsoft has made in-browser Skype calls available to Outlook.com customers in the UK. Customers who log into Outlook can now instantly access their Skype contacts, make calls, and communicate via instant messaging.

On the official Microsoft Outblook blog , the tech giant revealed that it will slowly roll out the Skype in-browser program to UK customers before making it available to customers in the United States and other areas internationally.

Once the in-browser Skype application is available, Outlook.com customers will be greeted with a pop-up box that alerts them to the new feature. Customers will be asked to link their Microsoft and Skype accounts if they have not done so already.

Skype customers who want to make audio and video calls will be required to install a web plug-in for their browser. Customers who want to use instant messaging via their browser are not required to install the Skype browser plug-in.

Microsoft has recently been putting more effort into the Skype platform. The company recently upgraded Skype for Windows users so that the program can take advantage of video messaging. The video messaging feature was originally only available for iOS, Mac, and Android users.

The beta version of the new Skype client works with Windows 7 for creating and receiving messages; however, Windows 8 and Windows Phone users can only view messages for now.

Here’s a video that introduces the new in-browser Skype option for Outlook.com:

On the Outlook blog Microsoft explains the entire process for connecting to Skype via the in-browser function.
