Lisa Marie Presley, the only daughter of The King, Elvis Presley, has just released her third album. “Storm & Grace” is Presley’s first album since her 2005 release and critics are saying that Presley has finally found her musical voice.

Presley said that she was very nervous when releasing her first two albums in 2003 to 2005 because she did not know how to deal with the enormous shadow of her father’s legend. Presley, now 44, said:

“In the past, I was terrified. I’d be nervous and worried about comparisons… On this record, I was starting from zero… I soon realized I was going to be OK. I found a proper bed for my voice and songwriting to lie in.”

Presley said that she made the mistake of trying to be a pop singer on her first two albums.

Presley added:

“I had such a horrible experience on the first two records, because of the people surrounding me personally and the people surrounding me in the last situation I was, label-wise. For one thing, I was never a pop artist; that was always wrong,” she says. “I mean, I love those songs, I wrote them — but I was hiding behind a lot of production, because it was safe and I was scared.”

The album, released today, contains several songs filled with confessional lyrics. Music legend T Bone Burnett, who produced the album, said:

“I heard her telling the truth, not jiving… Regardless of what crazy roads she’s been down, who she is is right there in those songs.”

In one song, “So Long,” Presley talks about her departure from the Church of Scientology.

Presley sings:

“This here is a city without lights / Those are all the people without eyes / Churches, they don’t have a soul / Soup for sale without a bowl / Religion so corrupt and running lives / Farewell, fair weathered friends / I can’t say I’ll miss you in the end.”

The Village Voice reports that Presley has also removed all mentions of Scientology from her website earlier this week.
