Lava Mobiles, continuing its launch spree has announced yet another mid-range Android powered device to its stables. Called the Iris 504Q+, the company is touting the camera, gesture and voice command centric features of the phone as its USP. The phone is also being touted as a successor the Lava’s older handset, the Iris 504Q. Here’s a quick round up of the features of this mid-range handset.

Display

The Iris 504Q+ comes with a 5-inch, 720p display (1280*720 pixels) that endows it with a PPI density of 294. The display claims to incorporate OGS (One Glass Solution) technology that supposedly lets the phone shed a few millimeters off its thickness. There is no Gorilla Glass used on the Iris 504Q+ though, instead, Lava has used the Asahi Dragontrail glass which the company claims to be “six times stronger than normal glass used conventionally,” on the device. The LCD glass also gets a rich look because it looks perfectly black when the Iris 504Q+ is in sleep mode. The phone is also quite thin at just 7.9 mm and weighing 149 gms.

Hardware

Moving on to the innards of the phone, the Iris 504Q+ is powered by a 1.3 Ghz Quad Core processor that is most likely to be housed inside a mid-range MediaTek chipset. The chipset also houses a GPU (Mali MP2) which runs independently at 500 Mhz. There is 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal memory which is decent for a phone at this price. There is option to expand the memory further on the Iris 504Q+ thanks to a micro SD card slot. As far as battery life is concerned, the Iris 504Q+ should at least on paper deliver excellent results thanks to a 2000 Mah battery inside.

Software

The spec sheet supplied to us in the official press release of the Lava Iris 504Q+ states that it runs stock Android. This looks like an interesting development if Lava has chosen to completely not tinker with the UI elements on the device with typical manufacturer bloat ware. However, in spite of its stock Android claim, it is still running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean at launch. We can only hope the Iris 504Q+ gets the KitKat treatment soon after its launch. The Lava Iris 504Q+ also comes preloaded with BBM, WhatsApp, Facebook and Twitter apps.

Camera

The Lava Iris 504Q+ boasts of a 10 megapixel main camera mated to a 2 MP front camera. The main camera uses a Sony EXMOR R sensor with an aperture size of 1.4 µm. There is a single LED flash for low light situations. Video recording could be done in full HD resolution. There are a host of software enhancements for the camera including a 4X zoom.

Connectivity

Connectivity-wise, the Lava Iris 504Q+ is pretty much comprehensive with support for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GSM/3G/EDGE and micro USB. This is a dual SIM handset as well with support for 3G on one of the SIM slots.

Pricing and Availability

The Lava Iris 504Q+ has been priced at Rs.13,990 (USD 231) which like many of Lava’s previous launches like the Iris Pro 20 , pits it directly against the Motorola Moto G. The phone comes with a flip cover and comes in Grey and Silver color options.
