Lava Mobiles Launches The Iris Pro 20 Android Smartphone For Rs.13,999 [$233USD]

Lava mobiles, the Indian smartphones and tablets manufacturer that launched the Xolo Q2500 tablet and the more affordable QPAD e704, has just introduced another mid-range product to its smartphone portfolio. The device in question happens to be the Lava Iris Pro 20. This is the latest addition to Lava’s premium Iris Pro branded devices.

Back in January, Lava had launched its premium Iris Pro 30 smartphone. Let us now check out the specifications of the Iris Pro 20.

Display

The Lava Iris Pro 20 features a 4.7 inch qHD display (540*960 pixels). This is a tad low by today’s standards – especially considering the fact that the immediate competition, the Motorola Moto G, gets a 720p display for a device that is almost the same price. Lava claims that the Iris Pro gets a One Glass Solution (OGS) – making the phone extremely thin and light. The display technology used is an IPS panel and can display 16.7 million colors. There is Corning Gorilla Glass 2 coating as well for added durability. Like its bigger, better equipped brother, the Lava Iris Pro 30, this one is a sleek looker.

Hardware

The Lava Iris Pro 20 is powered by a 1.2 GHz Quad Core Processor and 1 GB RAM according to the spec sheet without actually specifying the SoC that is being used. We assume it to be a mid-range Mediatek chipset at this point. There is 4 GB of internal memory, expandable up to 32 GB with memory cards. The phone is powered by a 2000 mAh battery that should ideally last you an entire day. But then I will reserve a judgment until after I get to test the Iris Pro 20. Lava claims to use something known as CABC power saving technology with the device. How this affects the phone is yet to be ascertained. Lava, however, claims that it enables the battery to be 30% more efficient compared to conventional smartphone batteries.

Camera

The Lava iris Pro 20 features an 8 Mega Pixel Auto Focus camera with LED flash light and Zero Shutter Lag (ZSL). It gets various software modes for HDR and Panorama photography. The company isn’t touting much about the phones’ front camera capabilities because of its VGA resolution.

Software and Connectivity

The Lava iris Pro 20 is a Dual SIM 3G enabled smartphone and supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB and EDGE. On the software front, it runs Android 4.2.2 underneath Lava’s slightly modified custom UI.

Pricing and Availability

The Lava Iris Pro 20 has been priced at Rs. 13,999 which pits it directly against the Moto G. It would have been better for Lava had they priced the device a tad lower.
