English tennis star, Laura Robson, has been given the support of One Direction star Harry Styles, and his legion of Twitter fans.

Robson became the first British woman to reach the last 16 at Wimbledon since 1998 today after she defeated Marina Erakovic at the tennis tournament.

The British number one performed a miraculous comeback on Court Two, to win 1-6, 7-5, 6-3, and she will now face Kaia Kanepi in the fourth round on Monday.

It appears that Robson’s spectacular form is because of the recent support from Styles and the British pop band.

The 19-year-old athlete stated, “Harry tweeted me yesterday. I think I’ve gained 20,000 followers and they have no idea who I am. There were thousands of messages saying, ‘Who is she!’ I was wetting myself because it was so funny.”

Robson also proclaimed, “The song lyrics are getting to me. I don’t follow him but it was Harry [Styles] who tweeted me yesterday. I haven’t really been going on Twitter but I actually got an email from twitter saying he’d followed me and messaged me.”

Previously Robson had received support from England soccer star, Wayne Rooney, however the Manchester United forward did get her name wrong. Robson noted, “He tweeted me during the US Open but he got my name wrong. He called me Robinson.   But, then, he’s Wayne Rooney so I forgave him.”

Robson also talked about playing under the roof at Wimbledon, stating, “The crowd is a lot louder, which is great – you feel so much more of the atmosphere. I think I’m handling it pretty well so far. I’ve had a fair few matches on big stadiums now where I’ve handled the crowd support perfectly fine.”

She added, “I love when people get involved. Sometimes they do like a massive groan if I hit a double-fault, but I’m doing it as well. We’re just living it together.”

Do you think Robson could win Wimbledon?
