Johnny Depp, who is reprising his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean 5, ended a long day of filming by stopping by to visit and bottle feed an orphaned bat he is sponsoring at the The Australian Bat Clinic and Wildlife Trauma Centre.

Depp, who was in such a hurry to visit his little bat buddy that he showed up still decked out in full Jack Sparrow costume, was mesmerized by the tiny creature as Depp held her and nurtured her with an even tinier bottle.

Watch it here:

The video of Depp feeding his tiny bat baby was first released on the clinic’s Facebook page with the caption, “Here is a video of Dad bottle feeding his little orphaned baby.” The 10-week-old female bat is aptly name “Jackie Sparrow” after Depp’s Pirates ‘ character.

“I now know why you fall in love with them,” Depp can be heard saying at the beginning of the video as he looks adoringly at the tiny creature.

This isn’t the first trip Depp has made to visit the less fortunate in Australia while dressed as Captain Jack. Just last week, Johnny Depp visited a group of kids as Sparrow at the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital in Brisbane.

Depp’s acts of kindness come after a rough start to his Australian journey in which Depp and his wife came under fire from the Australian government for illegally bringing their dogs into the country. While Johnny himself has avoided any legal aftermath for the faux pas, Mrs. Depp, otherwise known as Amber Heard, was charged last week with two counts of illegally importing the pooches and one count of providing false documentation.

Depp’s dog debacle isn’t the first time he has come under fire for issues involving animals. When Depp provided the voiceover work for the cartoon comedy Rango, PETA chastised Johnny because of the film’s marketing campaign that offered a $10 discount on pet lizards at PetSmart, stating that Depp was promoting animal cruelty. And during the filming of The Lone Ranger, Depp came under PETA fire again for what it deemed as a film that put horses in dangerous situations.

Despite his past supposed transgressions, however, after seeing Johnny Depp dressed as a pirate and adorably snuggling with a tiny baby bat, one can’t help but think Depp values the lives of even the earth’s tiniest creatures.
