Jasmine Crockett Under Fire Over TikTok Video of Detained Woman Endorsing Senate Run

Crockett also reposted a clip from another TikTok user, one who specifically wrote in that video’s caption, “I cannot vote in Texas, but I can be clear about my values.”

Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett stirred controversy on social media by posting a TikTok video featuring an endorsement from a woman who had previously been detained by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) ahead of Tuesday’s Democratic primary.

Libs of TikTok shared a video that Crockett, who is battling Rep. James Talarico for the Democratic nomination, posted on her TikTok. The video, which no longer appears on Crockett’s TikTok page as of Tuesday afternoon, features a woman who says that she was detained from January 14 through February 14 in Dilley, Texas.

“I’m truly grateful for the support I received from Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett,” she says. “And also after my release, she continued to check in on me and [continued] to show up with ongoing support.”

“She is a very genuine person who truly cares,” she continued. “And I really hope she receives just as much support in her U.S. Senator campaign. We would love to see more leaders like her who use their voices to address issues regarding immigration, regarding ICE, and I am deeply grateful for all the continued support.”

Jasmine Crockett is now getting endorsements from….

Criminal illegal aliens.

I’m not kidding.

Criminal foreigners is the Democrats’ base.

Almost as if she’s expecting noncitizens to vote for her… 🤔 pic.twitter.com/pvbTnZOXGp

The Libs of TikTok post had nearly 100,000 views in 13 hours.

Crockett also reposted a clip from another TikTok user, one who specifically wrote in that video’s caption, “I cannot vote in Texas, but I can be clear about my values.” It is unclear whether the person in question cannot vote because they are an undocumented migrant.

Although Crockett has other endorsement videos on her TikTok profile, many of which feature Hispanic voters speaking purely in Spanish, the clip that Libs of TikTok shared on X remained unavailable at publication. It is unclear whether Crockett has deleted that video — and, if she did, when she would have done so.

The controversy comes amid growing tension regarding the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, also known as the SAVE America Act, which would require individuals to provide documentary proof of U.S. citizenship in order to vote. If the SAVE America Act is passed, voters would be required to have a government-issued photo ID and documentary proof of citizenship, specifically a passport or birth certificate.

President Donald Trump once again endorsed the SAVE America Act on Tuesday night in a Truth Social post.

“America’s Elections are Rigged, Stolen, and a Laughingstock all over the World,” he wrote. “We are either going to fix them, or we won’t have a Country any longer.”

Critics of the SAVE America Act have argued that it would severely hurt voters who have changed their birth name, voters who have taken on a different last name, and minority voters. Supporters claim that the SAVE America Act will help prevent election fraud and ensure that undocumented citizens cannot vote.

Crockett, who turns 45 on March 29, has represented Texas’ 30th district since January 2023. Texas has not had a Democratic senator since Bob Krueger, who held that role for over five months beginning in January 1993. He lost a special election to Republican candidate and Texas State Treasurer Kay Bailey Hutchison that June.
