Travel into and out of Iceland was delayed on Sunday after country officials were forced to shut down the countries major international airport following the Grimsvotn eruption.
Aviation authorities say that the newest eruption to rock the country will not be as “far-reaching” as last years Eyjafjoell eruption which caused the largest international airspace shut down since World War II. The current volcano threw smoke and ash 12 miles into the sky, covering villages and farms and reaching as far as the capital.
The Keflavik airport announced their closure after airspace throughout nearly all of the country was closed due to the ash cloud.
No word at this time as to when the airport will reopen.
