Early adopters of the HTC One S smartphone have been promised an “immediate fix” for chips that occured on the ceramic coated body of the company’s ultra-thin smartphone.
The devices “micro-arc oxidized” rugged finish was suppose to be tough but instead it has been surprisingly easy to damage. While it’s not clear if early coatings are chipping at higher rates than usual HTC issued a quick statement in which it promised to act swiftly to ensure happy customers.
Here is the HTC statement:
HTC is committed to delivering a high quality product and great experience for all our customers. There have been a few, isolated reports of this issue. The finish on the One S was laboratory tested as being at a hardness similar to ceramic. While that’s hard, it doesn’t mean it’s impossible to damage. Regardless, HTC takes quality very seriously and are providing all customers with an immediate fix and we are implementing some small changes to ensure customers do not experience this issue in the future.
HTC didn’t do a great job of clarifying what they meant by “providing all customers with an immediate fix” when they released the statement but they have now clarified that the devices can be returned to their carrier during the DOA (dead on arrival) period which is typically 30 days. If the DOA has passed HTC will fix the phone under its standard warranty terms.
