Georgia Police discovered a three-year-old alone in a car after they received reports of child abuse from the employees in the parking lot. The child’s father left him alone in the vehicle on a hot day, claiming it had just been ten minutes, as the Augusta, Georgia, auto parts yard business did not allow him inside.

However, according to the time stamp, the father was gone for almost 30 minutes, and the employees told a different story. Regardless, he should not have left his three-year-old in the car. The temperature during the day was 88° with a heat index closer to 91°. It could have been fatal for the child had the people not reported the carelessness of the father.

Identified as Elliott McBride, the father parked the car outside the Pull-A-Part on Sand Bar Ferry Road and left his toddler unattended, sitting in the back of a Toyota Camry. His girlfriend was also inside the building. One of them could have stayed back and avoided the situation.

When the deputies asked for more information, McBride could not even spell his son’s name and was unaware of his birth year. He could not believe that the police were arresting him. He said, “All right. Who is that? I’m going to jail. Who are you calling?” He asked again, “So, I’m really straight. I’m just detained.” The officer replied, “Well, no. You might be going to jail.”

The father was arrested and charged with deprivation of a minor and taken to a detention center. The police called the mother of the child and explained to her the situation. She told the police she’s the primary caretaker, and the father helps when he can.

The bodycam video showed the police saying, “You baby’s fine. We had him inside. We gave him water and all. So, the staff called us. They basically went inside pull apart for about 30 minutes, and they left him sitting right there. Now, the windows are down, but they left a 2-year-old. They left him in the car and they while they were in there, they’re saying they were only in there 5 minutes. But timestamps reveal the truth.”

When the mom interrupted and asked the cop, “Who was in front of my son?”

The video has over 13K views on YouTube and has garnered the attention of netizens. Many blamed the father for his ignorance and behavior while talking to the deputies. One user commented, “It takes seconds for some weirdo to grab a baby out of a car. Could have ended even worse than imaginable.”

Another one added, “Some people should NEVER EVER have children!” The third one appreciated the deputies, “The cops were so nice and sent somebody to go get the mom. Class act.” One more posted, “I don’t know why people can’t seem to comprehend that you don’t leave your children in the car.”

In 2025, 31 kids died because of vehicular heatstroke. In 2026, six deaths were reported. The temperature in the vehicle can rise quickly, and the responsibility falls on the caregiver not to leave the child in the car. In most cases, parents either forget their kids in the vehicle or think it isn’t very hot outside.
