A Florida man took the internet by storm after posting a video of himself getting emotional about his nephew graduating from high school.
A viral Reddit post on the r/BlackPeopleofReddit and r/PopCultureV2 forums made the moment immensely popular.
The heartfelt moment resonated with thousands of users online as the man went on to tell people that his nephew is the only male in his entire life on both his mom’s and dad’s sides to graduate from high school. Tearing up over his achievement, he shared with people that he’s proud of his nephew.
Talking about how several generations before his nephew did not get the chance to graduate from high school, he said:
I ain’t never get a chance to walk across the stage, my brother didn’t, my daddy didn’t, my nephew’s daddy didn’t, his brother didn’t. His granddaddies and s***, they ain’t never walk across on stage… with this high school s***.
The man went on to praise his nephew and added:
“I’m happy for my motherfuckin’ nephew, man, I’m proud of this nigga. He’s 17 years old, and he’s graduating today, you know what I’m saying, never failed, never had a, you know what I’m saying, be held back, none of that shit.
“And I’m happy for my boy, man, right now, man. Shout out to my nephew Todd! You did it, boy.”

Graduating from high school is one of the most underrated milestones in the U.S. According to NCES, only 87 percent of students graduate from high school and 13 percent fail. Amid this, male students’ graduation rate is lower than that of females. It is 92.3 percent for males compared to 94.3 percent for females.
The levels are far worse at the college level. First generation college students graduate at only 24 percent compared to 59 percent for continuing-generation peers.
This makes Todd’s accomplishment even more fulfilling and wholesome for his family.
As the video spread online, many social media users shared the man’s joy with him. They realized how it’s a proud moment for the family. One user wrote on Reddit:
Be proud of his parents too unc.
It would have been easier for them not to care enough and repeat the cycle.
Good on the young man for getting it done.
Don’t let his journey end here.
Many users encouraged Todd for breaking generational cycles. One said:
Yessss breaking all generational curses

Generational curse breakers!! Thank you God for breaking that through him!!
While there were some negative and discouraging comments, most focused on congratulating the family on what appears to be a big win.
