Facebook is about to take its Android, iPhone and iPad apps to the next level, announcing on Thursday night that it’s in the process of launching the Facebook App Center in the Android and Apple stores.
The new platform will roll out on Android, iOS and Facebook.com via the mobile web.
Facebook announced the app center in May however today’s announcement was the first true signs of the social networks progress.
The Facebook App center allows users to customize their Facebook app with various download friendly application. When asked how much software will cost customers Facebook hinted that it does not want to call the new platform a “store.”
In an email Facebook revealed:
The App Center is launching tonight with more than 600 social apps, including Nike+ GPS, Ubisoft Ghost Recon Commander, Stitcher Radio, Draw Something, and Pinterest.
Each person will have a personalized experience in the App Center, with recommendations based on the apps they and their friends use, whether that be games or fashion, food, fitness, travel, or other lifestyle apps.
The email goes on to state:
You’ll only see high quality apps in the App Center, based on user ratings and engagement.
The App Center is available on mobile via the Facebook apps for iOS and Android, or by accessing Facebook.com on mobile.
The various App Center programs will begin launching at various times which means users will want to stay tuned for more information.
With 230 million Facebook users playing games every single month on the platform and 130 Facebook games with over 1 million active users the new Facebook App Center will likely see plenty of action as users begin to realize the platforms potential.
