Drake may not end up putting out the songs he has recorded with Kanye West after the rapper was seen supporting Donald Trump at a New York gathering earlier this week.
Drake, who has often praised Kanye for his creativity and songwriting skills, was disturbed by the photos that emerged, as seen on New York Times , showing West smiling and laughing while engaging in a long conversation with the president-elect, who West openly supported during his Saint Pablo Tour.
During one of his performances last month, Kanye admitted that he would’ve voted for Trump regardless of what people would’ve thought of him, leaving him with quite an impressionable reaction from the crowd, who booed the rapper off of his own stage.
With all this negative attention that’s been following Kanye, particularly with his affiliation to Donald Trump, Hollywood Life claims that Drake is reconsidering the idea of releasing the music he has recorded with the father-of-two, with his own team stressing that it could be a bad look on him.
Drake has enjoyed a tremendous amount of success in recent years, having signed a multi-million dollar exclusive deal with Apple, launching his own clothing line, announcing his 2017 European tour, and plans for a new body of work before the summer.
Drake is in high demand, as far as his projects in the music industry are concerned, so associating himself with someone like Kanye, who has done nothing but tarnish his own success and image, could potentially affect Drake in more ways than one.
The “Hotline Bling” rapper is reportedly being told to put his tracks with West on hold for the time being, which didn’t seem to bother Drake, since the Canadian-born hitmaker is already annoyed by the fact that Kanye is supporting Trump, so it was a mutual decision to lay off the songs for now.
“Drake might be having second thoughts about recording with Kanye after he met with Donald Trump. Drake’s been getting hella backlash from his rapper friends who are telling him to steer clear of Kanye because of his Trump alliance,” the source shared.
“Trump and hip-hop don’t mix and since Ye is so down with the Prez, Drake’s association with Yeezy may hurt his brand. Kanye’s all over the place right now anyway and anybody getting in the studio right now with him should reconsider.”
Drake and Kanye have become close pals over the past couple of years, with Drake even attending the Kardashian family’s Christmas dinner in 2015. It’s not as if their record labels just happened to have put them together to record music with one another — it was their own decision to do so.
But now that Kanye has gone in his own direction, doing things that Drake doesn’t seem to respect or tolerate, there’s going to be an indefinite hold on the songs they’ve recorded together, evidently meaning that fans will have to wait a little longer until Drake decides to give the thumbs up on a release.
News of Drake’s alleged decision to pull away from the Kanye tracks comes just days after it was revealed that West may not be invited to the Kardashians’ Christmas gathering this year, with one source claiming that Kim doesn’t want any drama at the dinner table.
The reality star was also said to have been furious over her husband’s public support for Trump, also concerned about how it could affect her own brand and reputation.
Drake has yet to respond to claims that the songs he has recorded with his supposed idol will not be released until Kanye’s reputation clears up a little. But with his public outings with the likes of Donald Trump, it doesn’t seem as if a good reputation is what West is looking for right now.
