While boarding Air Force One, Donald Trump made comments about tariffs and focused on the production of military equipment over textiles. His comments were targeted towards the industries with tariffs that he does not intend to bring back to the country.

His current focus is towards tank or ship production instead of textiles. Now, due to this statement many people are reacting as his theory is extremely flawed.

Even the National Council of Textile Organizations is criticizing him. According to Scott Bessent, recently, the Trump administration is rejecting the “booming textile industry.” There should be production in the US to get the most benefit and not impose tariffs on them.

Trump did agree with Bessent; however, he spoke about the items he wanted to make. He said they don’t want to make sneakers. They want to do big things.

Trump stated how they want to focus on AI technology now with the computers. This does not involve textile. He said the administration is not looking to make clothing items like socks as they can do this at various locations. So now they are looking to make computers, chips and ships that serve the military.

Trump clarified his tariff policy to boost domestic production of military gear & technology. “We want to make tanks, ships, chips, & computers—not socks.”

Many netizens have reacted to this by saying Trump does not even know what he’s talking about; he just says what people tell him to say to the public. Another concern was not only about the production of things that America won’t make but also about things not grown in the US. The tariffs are applicable on coffee, bananas, and chocolate. The user said it does not make sense to put tariffs on everything and just focus on the military.

One more user sarcastically called out the administration’s hypocrisy. Trump wants to put tariffs on goods not manufactured in the US but is also asking for taxes and tariffs on these things. So, as a result, there is a contradiction in the tariff war.

There’s some relief for the EU as Trump delayed the tariffs on goods till July 9. This will give them ample time to negotiate the terms. The president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, spoke to Trump on Sunday to get in touch and work out a solution. Trump has agreed to it after he threatened the EU with 50% tariffs on goods on Friday. As per his claims, the negotiations weren’t heading anywhere.

He was about to impose the tariffs by June 1, but now that the president of the commission has intervened, he won’t have to put up with the complaints of the 27-member bloc. Trump stated they have been difficult to deal with on the trade. Let’s see how the meeting plays out now!
