Melania Trump isn’t your conventional First Lady. She has defined her own path and proudly walks with pride, ignoring rumors and gossips about her life. She has now made history with an extraordinary act in the history of the White House.

On May 19, Melania joined her husband, Donald Trump, in the White House Rose Garden to sign S.146, the ‘Take It Down’ Act. The new act is focused on “protecting children and families from online extortion and exploitation through the non-consensual distribution of intimate images and deepfake abuse,” explains the White House in its press release.

The bill had strong support from the First Lady, who even made a rare appearance at the US Capitol in March this year to advocate for the bill’s passage in the House.

It was Trump who encouraged his wife to add her signature. He handed over the binder to her and told her to go ahead. “C’mon, sign it anyway. She deserves to sign it,” Trump said. Melania had a wholesome smile on her face as she picked up the pen to add her name below the President’s.

It definitely turned into a historic moment because it’s just the President who signs bills into laws. But since Melania strongly campaigned for it, and did all the work to make it a reality, she wanted for the world to know that the law is now permanently inked with her name and she’d never stop advocating for it. However, her signature is just symbolic because first ladies have no formal role in signing of legislation.

Melania said, “Today, through the ‘TAKE IT DOWN’ Act, we affirm that the well-being of our children is central to the future of our families and America. I am proud to say that the values of BE BEST will be reflected in the law of the land.”

Trump also praised his wife’s work as he said, “Honey, you’ve done amazing.” Recalling his reaction when he first heard about the bill, he said, “I said, it sounds like a tough one, and yet a very important one, and you got it done. So I congratulate you.”

“I want to thank Melania for your leadership on this very important issue. America is blessed to have such a dedicated and compassionate First Lady,” he added.

Melania cheered as the bill had the support from both the Democrats and the Republicans. She expressed, “Thank you all for coming together to prioritize people over politics.”

Trump added, “I’m not even sure you realize, honey, you know a lot of the Democrats and Republicans don’t get along.”

The signing was done in the presence of survivors of revenge p—rn, their families, Members of Congress, Cabinet officials and advocates of the cause. Trump gave shout-outs to the bill sponsors—Republicans Sen. Ted Cruz and Rep. Maria Salazar, as he took the podium.

Meanwhile, Melania criticized social media and Artificial intelligence by calling it “the digital candy of the next generation—sweet, addictive, and engineered to have an impact on the cognitive development of our children.”

“But unlike sugar, these new technologies can be weaponized, shape beliefs, and sadly, affect emotions and even be deadly,” she added.

Melania assured that the signing of the bill isn’t the end goal but the beginning of their work towards the cause. The First Lady said, “I want to thank my husband, President Trump, for standing with us in this effort. His signature on this new law is not where our work ends on this issue. Now, we look to the Federal Trade Commission and the private sector to do their part.”
