Cobie Smulders gave fans a hint of what’s in store in the How I Met Your Mother series finale, saying that when she found out how the series ends it made her cry uncontrollably.
Speculation has been rampant about how the series will wrap up when the finale airs on March 31. Fan theories are spreading across the internet including one idea that the titular mother is either dead or dying at the time the story is being told, some 20 years in the future.
In an interview with IGN , Smulders described the moment she found out how the series ends:
“You know what’s so funny is, like, a week before Neil did that, I went up to Craig [Thomas] after the table read, and I was like, ‘What is the deal with this?’ He was like, ‘Well, do you want me to tell you?’ I was like, ‘Yeah! I think I want to know,’ and he just laid it out. I immediately started weeping and had to leave. Like, I had to leave. I said that, I was like, ‘Craig, I have to leave right now. Thank you,’ and I just walked away.”
Cobie Smulders has taken the show’s finale to look back at her journey in the show. In an interview with Fashion magazine, the 31-year-old Canadian actress said that when she was up for the role of Robin Scherbatsky, she actually had two other projects on the table. Smulders said she was happy with the decision she made.
“I had to choose between three projects… I decided to go with How I Met Your Mother , which was the best call. I would’ve been so pissed off if I had gone the other way, don’t you think?” she said.
Smulders also said she was pleased to see how Robin developed over the course of the show’s nine seasons.
“Robin started off not being the funny one…at the beginning, she was the girl that the guy wanted. She eventually went through some emotional growth,” she said.
Cobie Smulders isn’t the only one hinting toward a heart-breaking series finale for How I Met Your Mother . Alyson Hannigan also offered fans a spoiler, saying that the finale made her “killed a lot of trees with my crying.”
