A Dutch motorist was in for quite a surprise this week when they found that their car had been hijacked….by caterpillars.

The spindle ermine caterpillars are fond of spinning silk, which they use to protect their young from predators. They usually target trees (which also serve as a food source), but in this case they decided that the car would have to do.

The Daily Mail quotes a scientist saying that although the silk looks bad, the car owner shouldn’t find it too easy to clean off.
