A Carnival Cruise ship touring off the coast of Mexico is stranded today after losing power following a fire in an engine room.

The Carnival Splendor, carrying 3299 passengers and 1167 crew, is currently located about 200 miles south of San Deigo, and tug boats are currently on route to tow the ship.

According to reports, most systems on board the ship are not working, including kitchens, air conditioning and telephones.

The U.S. Navy plans to deliver 70,000 pounds of bread, canned milk and other food to the ship to make sure those on board are fed and kept well.

“We know this has been an extremely trying situation for our guests and we sincerely thank them for their patience. Conditions on board the ship are very challenging and we sincerely apologize for the discomfort and inconvenience our guests are currently enduring. The safety of our passengers and crew is our top priority and we are working to get our guests home as quickly as possible,” the president and CEO of Carnival Cruise Lines, Gerry Cahill, said in a statement

The Carnival Splendor was on the first leg of a seven-day Mexican Riviera cruise which left on Sunday, Nov. 7, from Long Beach, Califorrnia. The ship’s itinerary included stops in Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
