At least seven people have been killed, and countless more injured in Iran Tuesday morning as the Iranian Government attempted to crack down on protests against Friday’s rigged election result.

Iranian state media said that the seven were shot near an “illegal Tehran rally” and that those injured were “thugs” that were trying to over run a military installation. Reports on Twitter from the scene suggest that the number killed may be significantly higher than seven.

There are also unconfirmed reports that senior members of the Iranian military have been arrested after indicating that they were willing to support the protesters.

Crowds of up to 1.5 million people marched through Tehran yesterday demanding the election results be overturned.
