Police rushed into action to save a newborn from a life-or-death situation after a parent kidnapped the child. On Friday night, the father of the infant, who had no legal rights to the 11-day-old baby, kidnapped the newborn from a home in Surprise, Arizona.
After police learned that the baby had been taken without permission, authorities wasted no time. They immediately issued an urgent search alert to law enforcement across the state. Arizona State Troopers and Navajo County Sheriff’s deputies quickly set up roadblocks and closely observed all the northern highways.
Thankfully, they didn’t have to wait long. Only hours after the initial search began, on Saturday morning, deputies spotted the suspect’s car speeding through the desert near Winslow. They pulled the father over and rescued the missing baby. The father had managed to drive the baby nearly 200 miles away from home.
The Navajo County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the baby was rescued without any injury and was handed over to the mother.
“Today, Navajo County Sheriff’s Office deputies received an ATL regarding the abduction of an 11-day-old infant from Surprise, Arizona. Deputies quickly located the suspect vehicle near Winslow and safely recovered the baby.”
“The infant was transported to a medical facility as a precaution and is awaiting reunification with his mother. We appreciate the assistance of Arizona DPS and are grateful this incident had a safe outcome. A media release with additional information will be released as it becomes available.”
The identity of the kidnapper has not been revealed by the Sheriff’s office.
In a conversation with FOX 10, Lt. Tim Klarkowski lauded Surprise Police detectives who worked hard through the night to investigate the case. He commended the PD’s decision to collaborate with other law enforcement agencies to safely locate the child. He added that police are grateful for the help from partner agencies and noted that the investigation is still ongoing.
People on social media praised the police for acting fast and saving the baby without a single scratch.

One user on Facebook claimed to have seen the vehicle the father was driving, “That white suburban flew passed me on the freeway on my way to winslow this morning, minutes before you guys stopped them. Excellent work!”
Another added, “Of all the things they do for the community I have to say this is probably my favorite… protecting the most at risk.”
A separate user sympathized with the mother and wrote, “That poor mom. I couldn’t imagine being 11 days postpartum and having to worry about this. I hope she is getting access to all the resources she needs.”
Some users expressed affection over the heartmelting photo of a Sheriff holding the newborn. “Sheriff was like, “I know a hungry cry when I hear one. Let’s find you a bottle.” I hope they sent this photo to the mom right away to let her know her peanut is in good hands,” one user wrote.
“If this officer isn’t a dad already he for sure caught the baby bug this fine day,” read another comment.
