Driving a police car to the scene of a crime can be a very dangerous act that can result in car crashes, loss of civilian life and other major disturbances and this past Sunday the rush to a crime scene in Alhambra, California took the life of one officer when his police car collided with a fellow officers cruiser.
The 2:30 a.m. crash occurred on the corner of Main Street and Garfield Avenue as both cars were headed towards the same robbery.
Patrol Officer Ryan Stringer, 26, was taken to Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena at approximately 6 a.m. and according to Alhambra Police Chief Mark Yokoyama it’s still not clear if Stringer was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
At this time police officials are not releasing the other officers name, although they have said he is in stable condition at the same hospital Stringer was delivered to.
In the meantime the California Highway Patrol’s major accident investigation team is investigating the crash.
The accident was the second for Stringer who lost control of his motorcycle on the 605 Freeway about a year ago, an accident that left him with minor injuries.
According to the SGV Tribune:
Stringer survived an accident on the 605 Freeway about a year ago after after losing control of his motorcycle, Yokoyama said. He suffered moderate injuries and head trauma July 2, 2010, when his motorcycle hit the back of a big rig.
