With every iPhone release , with every new smartphone, cellphones are becoming more like cameras. Well, Nikon has noticed the trend and has decided to jump into the game. The camera company has teamed up with Google to create the new Coolpix S800c, the world’s first Smartphamera… cameraphone… or wireless-camera-that-can’t-make-calls-but-can-play-games-and-download-apps-phone-thing.

All Things Digital reports that the S800c will have wifi so you can share your pictures as soon as you take them, but that isn’t exactly new. What is new is that the new Coolpix camera will be running on Google’s Android platform. It will have full access to the Google Play store and will have all the capabilities (minus the actual phone capabilities) of a smartphone.

So, instead of taking a phone and making it more like a camera, Nikon is taking its camera and making it more like a phone.

Nikon writes :

“Enjoy high quality images that you simply cannot get with smartphones, plus wireless communication that is impossible with regular digital still cameras. Equipped with the powerful combination of Android OS and Wi-Fi, it’s possible to quickly and easily upload images to a social network service or website from this camera…. Customize your style of visual communication with over 500,000 apps on Google Play.”

According to CNet , the new Coolpix camera will features a 16-megapixel CMOS sensor, 10x optical zoom, a 3.5-inch touchscreen LCD, and 1080p full-HD video recording.

The camera weighs 6.5 ounces and is 1.1-inch thick. It’s currently available for preorder for $349.95.
