Lou Ferrigno Believes He Was The Best Hulk

Although quite a few people have played the Hulk over the years, Lou Ferrigno firmly believes his version of the popular Marvel character was the best.

The star of the classic television series The Incredible Hulk was the first individual to bring the giant green superhero to life. Ferrigno’s size allowed him to easily slip into the role of the Hulk before the days of computer-generated wizardry.

The actor recently opened up about his role on the series during a chat with the Los Angeles Times. According to Lou Ferrigno, quite a few fans prefer the old one-hour drama to the character’s most recent cinematic adventures.

“I was the first to bring superhero muscles to the screen and to make it more believable. There’s still people who prefer to watch the old show over the newer things because it’s real, not CGI,” the Liberator star explained.

He added, “I don’t think anybody else can play the Hulk like I could. I was able to show emotions even with all of the makeup. I don’t think it can be duplicated.”

Lou Ferrigno starred as the title character in CBS series The Incredible Hulk for a total of five seasons. The late Bill Bixby portrayed Dr. Bruce Banner on the show. The network kicked the whole thing off with a two-hour pilot in 1977. The series would eventually leave the air in 1982.

NBC would later purchase the rights to the series from the folks at CBS. The network ultimately produced a total of three made-for-television movies featuring Lou Ferrigno as the Hulk. The Incredible Hulk Returns, The Trial of the Incredible Hulk, and Death of the Incredible Hulk aired on NBC between 1988 and 1990.

Eric Bana, Edward Norton, and Mark Ruffalo have portrayed the giant green character in recent years. However, Ferrigno is the only guy to play him in the flesh. Several seasons of The Incredible Hulk are currently available to stream on Netflix and Hulu Plus.

Do you think Lou Ferrigno’s version of the Hulk is the best of the bunch?
