Louis Leterrier Discusses ‘The Incredible Hulk,’ ‘Clash Of The Titans’

Filmmaker Louis Leterrier recently discussed the problems he encountered while filming The Incredible Hulk and Clash of the Titans.

The director is currently doing the promotional circuit for his latest endeavor Now You See Me. While talking up the project, the discussion soon turned to the work he did for Marvel and Warner Bros. According to the director, he’s not entirely proud of either movie.

Leterrier said his first foray into Hollywood filmmaking was filled with all sorts of problems.

“[‘Incredible Hulk’] was my first Hollywood movie and I really wanted to work with Marvel. And they were like, ‘Great news, Louis. We just got a release date. It’s a year from now.’ I’m like, ‘Fantastic, we have to go. Where’s the script?’ They said, ‘Actually, that’s the problem, we don’t have a script,'” he explained.

Louis Leterrier described his time on the sets of The Incredible Hulk and Clash of the Titans as extremely stressful. He said the absence of a screenplay forced him to “overcompensate” on special effects.

“You haven’t tested it in your head. You didn’t run it over and over again and covered all of the plot holes and figure it out. It’s a marathon that you sprint,” the filmmaker said.

As for the horrible 3D effects feature in Titans, the director accepts no responsibility. According to Leterrier, he practically begged the suits at Warner Bros. not to convert the film to 3D. The end result was nothing short of a disaster.

“It was famously rushed and famously horrible. It was absolutely horrible, the 3D. Nothing was working, it was just a gimmick to steal money from the audience. ‘Clash of the Titans’ is not my movie. And ultimately that’s why I didn’t do the sequel,” he explained.

Leterrier’s Now You See Me stars Jesse Eisenberg, Jake Gyllenhaal, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, and Amanda Seyfried. The film opens in theaters across North America on May 31.
