Simon Cowell is really looking forward to being father.
The 53-year-old X Factor judge said it was "just surreal" seeing girlfriend Lauren Silverman's first sonogram.
"You see this thing which is now alive moving around," Cowell told The Times of London. "So I am happy."
But don't expect Cowell to turn into a pushover once his new son or daughter is born.
"I can assure you, I won't go soft," he said.
On August 20, Simon Cowell confirmed the impending birth after dodging the question for weeks.
"I'm proud to be a dad," he said. "It's something I hadn't thought of before, but now I know I feel good about it."
Cowell added, "Things are changing in my life right now, for the better. She [Lauren]'s a very special girl." He said he wasn't sure if they were expecting a boy or a girl.
Cowell didn't always have that paternal instinct. He had previously said he didn't want children because there's a "routine that you can't escape from."
Lauren Silverman is reportedly 12 weeks along, and expected to give birth mid-February. News of her pregnancy first broke in July. The 36-year-old was still married to real estate mogul Andrew Silverman at the time, but it was reported that they had been in the process of getting a divorce before she got pregnant.
"She was definitely unhappy in her marriage and it's been a while that the marriage was not great. Andrew is a very nice guy but all marriages don't last," a source told People.
Still, Andrew Silverman named Simon Cowell in his divorce papers, citing adultery. He and his now ex-wife reached a divorce settlement on August 14, and agreed to share custody of their 7-year-old son, Adam. Lauren Silverman also walked away from the 10-year marriage with a little more than $2 million.
