Simon Cowell is looking forward to being a father.
After weeks of silence, the X Factor judge has finally confirmed the impending birth of his first child.
“Things are changing in my life right now, for the better,” he told the BBC . “I’m proud to be a dad.”
Cowell also said that he hadn’t thought of being a father before, but that he feels good about it. Cowell previously said that he didn’t want children because there’s a “routine that you can’t escape from.”
But Cowell has since changed his tune, saying that “[Lauren] is a very special girl.” He said he isn’t sure if they are expecting a boy or a girl.
While several media outlets reported that Lauren Silverman was pregnant by Simon Cowell, neither party confirmed the news until now. She and her husband, Andrew, were already in the process of splitting up when she got pregnant. Several sources said that she was unhappy in her marriage, but that she was “ecstatic” with Cowell.
“It was probably not the best relationship when she first met Simon,” one source said. “It wasn’t like they were blissfully in love at the time.”
However, Andrew Silverman — who was friends with Cowell — named the former American Idol judge in his divorce papers, citing adultery.
Previous reports said that Cowell was giving Silverman space “until things calm down,” but that he was planning on moving in with her. Last week, sources said that the 53-year-old had set off for a solo yachting trip to France.
Andrew and Lauren Silverman reached a divorce settlement last week . The former couple agreed share joint custody of their 7-year-old son, Adam. Lauren Silverman is also reportedly planning to live in New York City so that she can stay close to her son.
