Mayim Bialik Opens Up About Divorce: ‘It’s Not Fun’
The Big Bang Theory star Mayim Bialik recently opened up about her divorce from Michael Stone.
The couple’s divorce was finalized in May. They each took one of the homes they owned together. Bialik got the 1,400-square-foot, 1 bedroom home in Studio City, and Stone got the 1,300-square-foot, 3-bedroom home in Sherman Oaks.
Bialik and Stone were married in 2003, and Bialik filed for divorce in November 2012, citing irreconcilable differences. She sought joint legal and physical custody of the couple’s two sons, Miles and Frederick. It was speculated that Bialik’s advocacy and practice of attachment parenting was to blame for the divorce, but she denied those rumors.
“The hands-on style of parenting we practice played no role in the changes that led to this decision,” she said. “Relationships are complicated no matter what style of parenting you choose.”
She also said the decision to get a divorce was not an easy one, and that her primary concern was her sons’ well-being.
“The main priority for us now is to make the transition to two loving homes as smooth and painless as possible,” she said. “Our sons deserve parents committed to their growth and health and that’s what we are focusing on.”
Bialik spoke to ABC News Friday about how her and her sons are adjusting since the divorce.
“Divorce is not fun and I don’t recommend it, but kids are absolutely resilient and they are also very sensitive and complicated little people,” she said. “So, it’s been a summer of adjustment, but I’m happy to report they are doing really well.”
She also said she and Stone are successfully co-parenting the boys so far.
“Their dad is doing well and we communicate really well,” she said.
Mayim Bialik was recently nominated for an Emmy for her role as Amy Farrah Fowler on The Big Bang Theory. The 37-year-old said she was “legitimately in shock and beyond honored to be nominated for the second year in a row alongside the inspirational Jim Parsons and our fantastically written show.”
