Orange Is The New Black: Laura Prepon Was Intimidated By Role

Orange Is The New Black is a Netflix original series that is currently rising in popularity. Laura Prepon, who co-stars next to Taylor Schilling, was originally intimidated by her character.

Prepon plays the role of Alex, who is a drug smuggler that ends up in jail. Schilling plays the lead role as Piper, a friend of Alex who gets busted for her relationship with the drug ring.

Both characters find themselves in a correctional facility where the story takes off in the first season. The show originally began airing on Netflix on July 11 and it’s now a hit on the popular media streaming provider.

Prepon couldn’t pass up the role, but she was a little scared to play the character at first.

“When I read it, it was so good but I was like, ‘Wow, (the character) Alex scares me a little bit,’ which is exactly why I needed to do it and I’m so glad that I did,” she said in a recent interview about Orange Is The New Black, according to The Associated Press.”I feel like every actress is always looking to (push the envelope) because the minute you get complacent, hang it up.”

The former That ’70s Show star has kept busy since the show went off the air in 2006, but she’s back in the spotlight with her new Netflix original series. The popular series is set for 13 episodes in the first season and a second season was already in place before the original release.

“Anyone that sees the show they’re like, ‘Oh, there’s nothing like this on TV.’ Which there isn’t and that’s really cool,” Prepon added in the interview.

With a women’s prison at the forefront of the show, it’s success has been overwhelming and fans have continually showed their support all over social media.

A second season could lead to a third and it’s popularity seems to be heading in that direction. Do you believe Orange Is The New Black can become Netflix’s hit series as the company continues to grow?
