Trayvon Martin’s Parents Interview Airs On Good Morning America

Trayvon Martin’s parents gave a heartfelt interview on the Good Morning America show this morning. The couple expressed their “shock” at the not guilty verdict given to their son’s killer.

The bereaved parents, Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin, said they felt disgusted when the jury ruled that George Zimmerman was not guilty of killing their son, Trayvon Martin:

His mother said in the interview, which was aired on the ABC News website today:

“I really didn’t believe that he was not guilty. “My first thought was shock, disgust.”

George Zimmerman was prosecuted for second-degree murder but was found not guilty by a Florida jury on Saturday. Fulton continued in the interview to speak about her son, specifically mentioning his age and mindset:

“I think people are forgetting that Trayvon was a teenager so he probably thought as a teenager.”

She continued:

“I really do believe he was afraid because he did call George Zimmerman creepy. So he was afraid and if you are 17 years old and you are afraid, you may not know what to do.”

Trayvon Martin‘s father, Tracy Martin, also spoke in the interview, holding back tears, speaking of his devastation following the verdict:

“As parents understanding how they reached the verdict, I’ll never grasp that concept. Just as loving parents and God-fearing people, we just continue to pray that whatever was in their heart was what they intended to do. But we didn’t feel it was fair and, of course, it was devastating.”

The verdict in the Trayvon Martin murder case has caused much controversy in the media and with the public. You can share your thoughts about the verdict in the comments feed below.
