Trayvon Martin Protests In Little Rock Target Police Shooting Of Black Man

Trayvon Martin protests in Little Rock, Arkansas are targeting the fatal police shooting of a black man.

As previously reported by The Inquisitr, Trayvon Martin protests are widespread but the majority are peaceful. Some experts claimed Trayvon Martin riots were unlikely shortly before the George Zimmerman verdict was announced.

Unfortunately, the Trayvon Martin protests in Little Rock were apparently not so peaceful. A Trayvon Martin protest at the corner of 12th Street and Jefferson Street involved people there gathering and yelling “Trayvon Martin” and spitting on others.

Earlier that morning around 11:30 AM, police in riot gear responded to a officer-involved shooting of a black man. Witnesses claim at least eight shots were fired at an unarmed black man running from the police.

Police apparently were trying to stop the unnamed black man from stealing a black SUV. The suspect got out and ran away on foot. Police say the black man was actually armed during the shooting and a weapon was recovered.

By about 3 PM, about 300 people gathered for a Trayvon Martin protest of the police shooting the black man. Besides making references to Trayvon Martin and the George Zimmerman verdict of not guilty, the Trayvon Martin protest is pointing to the police shooting of black teen Bobby Moore in 2012. Various people not involved with the police have attempted to calm down those involved in these Trayvon Martin protests.

An official Trayvon Martin protest in Little Rock is being set up by the Arkansas Legislative Black Caucus at the state Capital. Being held at 3:30 PM, this Trayvon Martin vigil is intended to encourage the end of “profiling and systemic disenfranchisement of African-American males.”
