Supermoon Photos Light Up Twitter

The Supermoon may be slowly fading in the night sky, but there are still some incredible photos on the internet.

The Supermoon, which appears larger in the sky due to the moon’s distance to the earth, peaked on June 22 and 23 but people are still passing around photos of the cosmic event.

According to Discovery, the moon appeared 14 percent larger in the sky this week and nearly 30 percent brighter.

It also coincided with the summer solstice and the first day of summer, which gave people one more reason to celebrate the event.

People from all over captured photos of the moon this week, and they’ve been posting them to Twitter.

The photos showcase a spectacular lunar event, but some people were less than impressed when seeing the supermoon in person. Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson wrote on Twitter that most of the “beautiful photographs” of the Supermoon were taken with a special lens.

Tyson writes: “Just an FYI: All beautiful photographs you’ve ever seen of the Super Moon were taken with a Super Telephoto lens.”

Did you see the supermoon in person? Here are some of the Supermoon on photos that have been circulating on Twitter.
