Randall Cunningham’s 2-year-old son dies in hot tub

The two-year-old son of former quarterback Randall Cunningham was found unresponsive in the now-pastor’s backyard hot tub yesterday afternoon and was ultimately pronounced dead.

Christian Cunningham, who would have turned three in December, was found floating in the tub by a woman who was at Cunningham’s home “with several children” at around 4:30 Tuesday. The woman, who has not been named, is said to have removed the toddler from the jacuzzi before performing CPR. According to Las Vegas police Lt. Dennis Flynn, responders took the child to St. Rose Dominican Hospital, where he later died.

The Washington Post says “abuse and neglect” officials are investigating the child’s accidental death, but that it appears to simply be an accident. Cunningham, who played for the Eagles, Vikings, Ravens and Cowboys, is now a pastor for Remnant Ministries. Prior to yesterday’s tragic incident, the hot tub was used by Cunningham for baptisms. The former quarterback was in San Diego at the time of the accident, but has since left to return home.
