Her name is Jor'Dynn Duncan. She was a seven-year-old second grader at Academy Street Elementary School in Bayport, New York. Teachers said she "lit up the room."

The constant injuries led to her going into cardiac arrest, and she was pronounced dead at the hospital. The main accused of the child abuse crime is the fiancé of Jor’Dynn Duncan’s father, Emily Kelly. The 7-year-old was placed in her care. Kelly had full custody even though she was not related to the child.
Duncan missed school for 40 days between January 2025 and June 2025, which raised a concern; however, Kelly made an excuse of deaths in the family and a trip to Disney World. These were just excuses to prevent anyone from finding out about the child abuse.
Kelly has been charged with second-degree reckless endangerment, unlawful imprisonment, and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child. She’s in prison and being held for $5 million cash or a $10 million bond. She will appear in court on June 23.
According to her attorney, Kelly has denied the charges. Her lawyer noted, “We are confident that when the evidence is fully presented, Emily will be completely exonerated. The facts will demonstrate that Emily deeply cared for Jor’Dynn and treated her as her own daughter.” He further added that this was just a tragic accident.

Meanwhile, Kelly’s mom, Renner, is charged with second-degree manslaughter and endangering the welfare of a child. She’s being held at $50,000 cash or a $500,000 bond. Kelly may get 25 years behind bars, and her mother could face up to 15 years. The attorney has defended her by saying she has no criminal history. The attorney also added that she does not have any caregiving roles since she is old and has dementia.
In addition, Kelly’s daughter, Seymore, has been charged with unlawful imprisonment and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. She could get up to four years in prison; however, she has denied all charges, just like her mother and grandmother.
Duncan’s teachers said the young girl “lit up the room.” She was a second grader. The Suffolk County District Attorney’s office announced criminal charges for her caregivers. After that, the Bayport-Blue Point School District released a statement. The Superintendent’s statement reads, “Our thoughts remain with all those affected by this unimaginable loss, including the student’s family, classmates, teachers, and the entire Bayport-Blue Point community. We remain committed to providing all necessary support to our students and staff members as we continue to navigate this difficult period.”
