Bassist Ted Dwane was hospitalized Monday with a blood clot on his brain, forcing his band Mumford Sons to cancel a slate of shows on their current tour.
Despite having an emergency procedure, Dwane is reportedly doing well and doctors expect him to make a full recovery, his bandmates noted.
The band announced on their website that the bassist was hospitalized after feeling sick for several days. On Monday, he underwent emergency surgery to relieve the clot doctors had found on the surface of his brain.
Mumford Sons wrote : “Our friend and bandmate Ted has been feeling unwell for a few days, and yesterday he was taken to a hospital to receive emergency treatment … The scans revealed a blood clot on the surface of his brain that requires an operation. Ted is receiving excellent care and we are being assured that he will recover quickly from surgery.”
Dwane’s sudden ailment cause the band to cancel three shows, one in Dallas on Tuesday, in Woodlands, Texas on Wednesday and in New Orleans on Thursday.
Mumford Sons are headlining at next weekend’s annual Bonnaroo Music Festival in Manchester, Tennessee. Afterward, they are scheduled to play in Kansas City before wrapping up their tour with two concerts in Telluride, Colorado.
The band has also been discussing plans for their third album, revealing that they’ve been in discussions with rapper Jay-Z to come up with a “fresh experience” for listeners.
Lead singer Marcus Mumford told Rolling Stone that he “really wants to rap” on the new album, the follow-up to their Grammy-winning Babel.
“We really want to rap. We’ve just got so much to say, saying it through a melody doesn’t really work for me,” Mumford said “We’ve been talking with Jay-Z about it, you know. It’s gonna be a fresh experience for our band.”
It wasn’t specified where the bassist was hospitalized or when he might be released.
