Santa Monica College Shooting


5 pm Santa Monica College Shooting UPDATE: The gunman was wounded and apprehended by police officers inside the library. USA Today is reporting that a possible second gunman is being sought. Santa Monica law enforcement officers noted that the gunman currently in custody was wounded during the college shooting. Two of the mass shooting victims are reportedly in critical condition and the third is reportedly in serious condition at this time.

The California mass shooting is thought to have begun after the suspect attempted to break into a home near the community college. The alleged shooter is also accused of trying to set fire to another property near the home. Several bags inside the Santa Monica College might belong to the shooting suspect – the bomb squad has been called in to investigate.

Reports of shot fired at Santa Monica City College were reported around 12:30 pm local time. Breaking news reports have confirmed that the shooter is down. The number of victims is currently unknown. Approximately 30,000 students attend Santa Monica College.

President Barack Obama is nearby the college at an unrelated event. The Secret Service recently stated that they are aware of the incident and are adjusting security procedures accordingly. Air space has been restricted due to the president’s visit, therefore the standard crime scene camera coverage is not available.

Shep Smith of Fox News has now confirmed reports that a male shooter reportedly opened fire in the Santa Monica College library. The man allegedly fired at passing cars after exiting the library. Early reports from the California college shooting indicate that at least three victims were transported to a local hospital. The man presumed to be the shooter has been taken into police custody.
