Miguel Defied Orders Not To Jump At Billboard Music Awards

Miguel was ordered by producers not to attempt to jump over the crowd at the Billboard Music Awards, but ignored the order and performed the jump anyway.

Sources close to the production told TMZ that Miguel approached the producers before rehearsals and asked if he could try to jump over the crowd. They immediately said no and that it was too dangerous.

When the time for his performance came, Miguel defied the order and performed the jump anyway. The result wasn’t pretty, as the “Adorn” singer didn’t quite clear the audience and landed on a female fan, slamming her head against the stage.

The fan, Khyati Shah, appeared to be fine at first, appearing backstage with Miguel after the performance. But less than two weeks after the incident, an attorney for Shah said that she was considering filing a lawsuit pending the results of medical tests. The attorney, Vip Bhola, said that Shah had been having “difficulties” after the incident.

Monday, Bhola said that Shah has been experiencing difficulties that are “cognitive in nature and lead to suspicion of a neurological head injury.” Bhola also said that Shah did not receive proper medical care after the accident and that she should have been rushed to the hospital.

Shah is now awaiting test results from a neurologist, and will decide what her legal actions are once she receives them.

Here’s where things get a little interesting. When Miguel and Shah were interviewed together backstage, Miguel said, “The crazy thing is, when you’re performing and you’re just kind of into it, you never know where it’s gonna go and where you’re gonna go with it, and how that might turn out. So this is one of the less-favorable moments.”

But with this new report that the producers told Miguel not to perform the jump because it was too dangerous, it is clear the decision to make the jump wasn’t made in the heat of the moment, but was premeditated. How, or if, this new bit of information will affect Shah’s lawsuit — should she decide to file — remains unclear at this point.
