Reese Witherspoon Arrest Video Released: Watch

UPDATE: More Reese Witherspoon arrest video has been come out (see second embed below). On this footage, the actress royally announces to the trooper, “My name is Reese Witherspooon … you’re arresting me for obstruction of justice … it will be on the national news; I just want to let you know.” There is some further dialogue between them, and the trooper again explains that she was detained because she ignored his direction to stay in the car. “I disagree,” she declares.

When Witherspoon and her husband Jim Toth are placed in the back of the cruiser, she still doesn’t seem to grasp why she was arrested (“what have I done?”). Toth also has to explain several times that she was placed under arrest because she kept getting out of their vehicle. “I’m American citizen; I can say whatever I want to,” she insists on the video. She also strangely added that “[the trooper] does not have jurisdiction over the ground that he speaks on.” Toth tells he that the whole traffic stop was “my bad” and that Reese should not have interfered with the officer who was busting him for DUI. “It just turned it really bad,” he told his wife about her mouthing off to the trooper.

INITIAL REPORT: Atlanta, GA – The Reese Witherspoon dash cam arrest video has now been released.

Witherspoon was taken into custody for disorderly conduct early on April 19 after he husband was pulled over on suspicion of DUI.

Witherspoon was arrested at the scene along with husband and CAA agent Jim Toth. Toth was reportedly swerving over the double yellow line before police pulled him over. The somewhat out-of-control actress refused to stay in the vehicle while Toth was given a field sobriety test. This ultimately led to her arrest for what the Georgia State Trooper called “obstruction” on the video.

To make matters worse, the actress played the equivalent of the “don’t you know who I am?” card, which is usually backfires and leads to the subject being placed in the back of a police cruiser and a quick trip to jail, as it did in this instance.

In the video where she is getting in the Georgia State Trooper’s face, she asks/demands of the officer, “Do you know my name, sir?.” The trooper responds that he doesn’t need to know her name “quite yet.” She then boldly says “you’re about to find out who I am.”

She seems also stunned (“are you kidding me?”) when the exasperated officer starts cuffing her for “getting up in my investigation.”

In the video, Jim Toth unsuccessfully attempts to calm down his wife and lamely tells the Georgia State Trooper, “I tried.”

The Walk The Line and Legally Blonde star subsequently apologized for her behavior in a statement, admitting that she had a few too many adult beverages that night and yesterday went on Good Morning America to accept responsibility for saying “all kinds of crazy things.”

Both Witherspon and her husband pleaded guilty to their respective offenses yesterday to settle the pending matters. Witherspoon was ordered to pay a $213 fine for interfering with the officer. Toth, who was put on probation, will be required to perform 40 hours of community service and attend an alcohol education course. The couple were originally due back in court later in May, but their lawyer must have worked out a deal with the prosecutor for an early disposition.
