Sarah Silverman Loses HBO Virginity, Lands First Comedy Special

Sarah Silverman and HBO have agreed to the raunchy actress-comedian’s first comedy special, We Are Miracles, according to a Monday report from The Wrap.

The website noted that the plan is to tape the special in May for a release during the fall of this year in association with Funny or Die. Silverman will handle the writing chores and serve as a co-executive producer on the project. She will also reunite with her Jesus Is Magic director Liam Lynch.

“Sarah Silverman is a fresh, fearless and utterly original comedy voice,” said HBO programming president Michael Lombard in a statement. “I’m thrilled that we can bring the humor of this unique talent to our viewers.”

Sarah Silverman has stayed busy throughout her 23 years in television and film, but her profile has never been higher. At age 42, she has amassed 72 acting credits with recent forays into writing and producing, according to her resume at IMDb.

In March of this year, she announced the JASH Comedy Network, a joint venture with Michael Cera, Tim Heidecker, Eric Wareheim, and Reggie Watts.

She also signed on for the comedy-western A Million Ways to Die in the West opposite Seth MacFarlane. In the film, Silverman will stick to her irreverent brand that has drawn criticisms from many in the religious community.

The comedian has frequently taken jabs at religious belief and made light of abortion, drawing ire from practitioners of both Christianity and Judaism.

In the film, she will play a prostitute, who refuses to sleep with her fiance, played by Giovanni Ribisi, because she doesn’t wish to “defile the marriage bed,” if we’re putting it in biblical terms.

Are you a fan of Sarah Silverman and her brand of comedy? Will you be watching We Are Miracles when it premieres later this year?
