Dzhokhar Tsarnaev WMD Charges For Boston Marathon Bombing Explained

The Dzhokhar Tsarnaev WMD charges by the Justice Department may have some worried about the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombing.

As previously reported by The Inquisitr, the Dzhokhar Tsarnaev WMD charges came during the Boston bombing suspect’s initial court appearance, which was conducted in his hospital room by a federal magistrate.

Since the Boston bombing suspect is a US citizen, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev will not be tried as an enemy combatant, which would have required him to be tried before a military tribunal who would be more likely to seek a death penalty. Ted Nugent says “real justice” would be to hang Dzhokhar Tsarnaev at the Boston commons.

The US Attorney of Massachusetts sent out the Dzhokhar Tasarnaev WMD charges via tweet, saying:

“Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is charged with conspiring to use weapon of mass destruction against persons and property in U.S. resulting in death.”

WMD laws include “any weapon involving a biological agent, toxin, or vector” and any weapon “designed to release radiation or radioactivity at a level dangerous to human life.” Fortunately, the weapons of mass destruction charges do not mean the homemade pressure cooker bombs were laced with chemical or biological weapons like anthrax.

Eric Harroun, a US Army veteran, explains the Dzhokhar Tsarnaev WMD charges in this explanation of the US military’s usage of the term “weapons of mass destruction”:

“The statutory definition of ‘weapon of mass destruction’ refers to ‘any destructive device as defined in section 921 of this title,’ which in turn includes: a ‘rocket having a propellant charge of more than four ounces.’ Other weapons of mass destruction, legally speaking: Bombs. Grenades. Mines. Missiles ‘having an explosive or incendiary charge of more than one-quarter ounce.’ ”

By this legal definition, the Dzhokhar Tsarnaev WMD charges are referring to the homemade pressure cooker bombs, which are Improvised Explosive Devices or IEDs.
