New Kids on the Block member Joey McIntyre reportedly finished the Boston Marathon minutes before the explosions began.
McIntyre was participating in the run to support the Alzheimer’s Association. The singer’s mother reportedly suffers from the disease. He had been tweeting about the experience at the event before the explosions started.
“There was an explosion by the finish line about five minutes after I finished. I’m okay but I’m sure there are many hurt,” Joey McIntyre tweeted after completing the marathon.
Actor and fellow New Kids on the Block member Donnie Wahlberg soon took to Twitter to after learning about the explosions in Boston. Since he didn’t know if McIntyre was okay, he sent a message to his followers on the micro-blogging site asking for information about his friend.
“Please reach out if you hear that Joey McIntyre is okay! Please say a prayer for everyone in Boston!” Wahlberg tweeted.
The singer wasn’t the only celebrity who participated in the Boston Martahon on Monday. Survivor winner Ethan Zohn also took part in the event. He sent out a message following explosions to let his fans, friends, and loved ones know he was okay.
“I’m okay. Most importantly, praying for those injured and affected by this. Still don’t have a lot of info. Thanks for your love and concern,” he wrote shortly after the incident took place.
At least 144 were injured and three people were killed when a series of explosions erupted near the finish line of the Boston Marathon. Seventeen people were listed in series condition while 25 others were in critical condition on Tuesday morning.
Bill Iffrig was near the finish line when the explosions started. Although he wasn’t among the people injured during the blasts, he said he was knocked to the ground.
“I was just approaching the last straightaway to the finish line, and I had a good day and was feeling really good, and I got down to within about 15 feet of the finishing apron and just tremendous explosion, sounded like a bomb went off right next to me,” the runner told ABC News.
An investigation into the explosions is still underway.
